Description
Hand potted and painted Chinese porcelain bowl with broad rim and a dark cobalt archaistic stylized decoration. The bowl may have been used as a joss stick holder or censer because the interior is unglazed. The heavy round porcelain bowl is decorated with alternating cobalt blue bands. The main band in the middle looks like a stylized archaic pattern. The cobalt used is a nice dark smoky blue. The white glaze has a blue cast with a nice worn smooth feel and looks shiny.
The bowl has a broad, flat lip. The interior of the bowl is unglazed, as is the base and the deep foot. You can see the potter’s wheel marks under the glaze at the mouth and underneath on the base. The clay is a dirty white.
There are no porcelain marks or labels.

There are kiln flaws such as black spots, glaze misses, pimples, cobalt explosions, and bumps. There are no cracks, chips, or breaks. The bowl rings true. There is a reddish brown stain at the base of the interior, most likely a residue from incense.
A nice antique handmade bowl with a nice blue and white design that will add to your blue and white décor. Put sand in it and stick in incense for a nice censor/joss stick holder.
